Every single year we release a game I'm surprised how much data it can generate.

Square Enix is one of the world’s leading providers of gaming experiences, publishing iconic titles such as TOMB RAIDER and FINAL FANTASY.

Originally online gaming data was stored in a relational database, but as the game data scaled the relational database couldn’t cope. To ensure players got the optimal gaming experience Square Enix migrated to MongoDB Cloud Manager and has seen zero down time in five years.

Tomas Jelinek, Senior Online Operations Administrator at Square Enix put the challenge in context:

For example, Rise of Tomb Raider, the latest Tomb Raider game, is able to generate roughly around half a terabyte of data per day. It's just completely somewhere beyond our expectations...We never thought we would get that much data in one day. MongoDB Cloud Manager helps us to manage all this and run all these operations in quite small team. Without Cloud Manager I think I would just spend all my life working on these things.
